NEWLY APPOINTED RECTOR, FED. POLY. OKO, PLANS TO ESTABLISH CHEMICAL ENGR. TECHNOLOGY DEPT.

Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo says she will establish a Chemical Engineering Technology Department in the institution.

Dr Nwafulugo said this while addressing the institution’s community on what she planned to achieve at the Polytechnic.

She said her tenure would focus on welfare of staff and students, as well as address infrastructure needs, where necessary.

We will inspire and expand the engineering field with swift introduction of the chemical engineering technology.

Priority attention shall be paid to staff welfare including salaries, promotions and proper placement, transportation, housing, office accommodation and medical services.

``I will create a conducive academic atmosphere for effective teaching and learning as well as provide security for life and property,’’ Nwafulugo said.

Nwafulugo is first female to be appointed to head a previously male-dominated headship.

``My tenure will sustain the status-quo and will address areas yet to be touched.

``The more an institution develops; its social responsibility toward society becomes greater as well as expectations of socio-economic roles toward the community it belongs.’’

She adds: ``the polytechnic will continue to promote integration of academic research and industry to fast-track technology transfer possible’’.

It will contribute in such areas as establishing some avenues for Internally Generated Revenues (IGR), like establishment of factories for vegetable oil refining, paint production, confectioneries and water treatment.’’

Nwafulugo re-assured that her tenure would treat all equally in spite of religious inclinations.

She added that there would be zero tolerance for cultism or other nefarious activities on campus.

The rector thanked God, the Chairman of Governing Council, Mr Lasberry Amadi and the management, staff and students, calling for their support to accomplish her goals.

``With all hands on deck, we shall take the institution to a level of excellence.’’

Chairman, Council, Amadi expressed his joy and gratitude to God for the appointment of substantive rector for this citadel of learning.

``I prayed God right from the screening stage to get us a helper. She has become the rector only because God has ordained it.

``This is a clear testimony of what the Lord has done because it is not what man can do.

``I surrendered the whole process to God and God proved he is faithful,’’ he said.

Amadi, who is fellow, Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN), assured the community that they were in good hands as the rector would deliver.

He cautioned those who had filed petitions to scuttle the outcome of the rectorship interview in the past to stop henceforth.

``The rector has come with visions, and as long as she is from God, her visions must come to pass.. She is highly loaded and will deliver on her mandate.

``I want to caution those who have been writing petitions to stop. So many petitions have been written but God has chosen her.

He went philosophical, saying, ``touch not my anointed, and do my prophet no harm'’.

In a welcome address, Deputy Rector, Dr Izuchukwu Onu expressed gratitude to the council chairman and members for the cooperation extended to him.

The Registrar, Mrs Stella Nnenna Njaka urged the rector to put God first in all she does, assuring her of maximum cooperation and support. (MOI)
