WE HAVE BEEN HELD DOWN FOR SO LONG, EMEKA IKEH VOICED OUT

The North deliberately doesn't want to embrace electronic voting.
They have held us down for so long. For the past six years and counting, they have compelled us to be discussing livestock. A Southerner will score 250 in a jamb , yet he/she cannot gain an admission in ABU, but a Northerner who scores 85 can gain admission to the course of his/her choice. One country, two standards of measurements. A country where everything has been politicised. No standard, no drive , no competence. The North-East Nigeria, a region with the highest number of uneducated people, will go to the polls, that are conducted manually, they will not have void votes, but in the south East, where the percentage of uneducated people are less than 40%, they will go to the polls, and the number of void votes will be in thousands. A Southern president created PVC, but a Northern umpire superentended over the PVC. In the south, they use the PVC to vote, but in the North, it is not backed by Law. My heart bleeds, when I see our leaders in the south, not being strategic. In 2015, Enugu State recorded one point Something million registered voters. How many PVCs did we collect? at the end, out of one point something million registered voters, about 600,000 or less voted, throwing away close to a million votes. In the Northeast states, all their registered voters collected their PVCs, whether they bought them from INEC, I do not know. What about the south, especially in Enugu? the excess was left in the hands of INEC even as I write these lines. Just like double column cash book; what you credit, your debit. The North voted in all the PVCs they collected. Not even one was voided, no death and no mistake. What an irony. In the south, the leaders listen to only sycophants. They give little or no time to young men who can think out values. No, "they are smart", they will say. 2023 is coming again, and the southerners are making noise again. They have not asked people from the North East how they turn those numbers during an election. During an election, their senators will not go home because of kidnapping, yet they stay in Abuja and Kaduna to turn out numbers. The south, are you there? It is time for strategic planning. If Enugu can collect all their registered voters, from A-Z, same as Abia, Anambra, Imo, and Enonyi , we can be soaring up to 7million votes. If the same strategy is done in South-South, they can be averaging 10 million votes. If the same is done on South West, they will be heating about 11 million votes, and when you aggregate them, you will nod your head in affirmation. We cannot stand another four years of killings, nepotism, confusion, and external debts. The urgency of the moment is now, as have been held down for too long. We need to think. We need to work and walk. Emeka Ikeh Enugu State Donnie Saico Media
