My Dear Good students of Federal Polytechnic, Oko. I address you today, following the just concluded election of the students union Government, Held on 15th Feb. 2020.
In my relationship with you as your President, I had employed regular consultations and dialogue as a tool of political discourse. This forms this course of action.
I am thereby reporting back to you my noble students of F.P.O. for the mandate you freely gave to me and my fellow executive even at the risk of high political tension. This mandate has now come to an end as I step aside for the next set of leaders to continue from where we stopped.
I and my fellow executive shall always cherish the goodwill and support you gave us, as we grappled with the setting up a new administration to rebuild a union Government that was devastated by lack of sacrifice in the years passed.
In the last four months we sought to elevate merit. Unity of purpose, honesty, transparency and an inclusive approach to governance, as the hallmark of our administration. We have in this short period restored the pride of our unionism by meeting up to our campaign promise of Getting SUG Working Again.
Starting from the release of our students who were unlawfully arrested from their various lodges, to the settlements of disputes between landlords and our students, to the policy of reducing number of carryover students held by some lecturers who pushes students by Giving them 38 and 39 just to hold them from graduating, to the reduction of transport prices between Oko to Ekwulobia and raising policies that helps the physically challenged, to organizing the very best students week programs, to the intervention of defending students during their lower electoral processes and most importantly is the help my administration rendered to student of our noble institution who was bitten by snake, To the successful election without controversy that were put in place through the DSA. I cannot name it all but let me also use this opportunity to finally answer the last challenge that our administration was pressured with.
The issue of convocation, let me categorically inform us that the #25000 earlier circulated on media as a price to be paid for convocation have being reduced to #15000 after much intervention from the Union President to the Nation President of Alumni, its on this note I also inform our noble students that the payments starts from 2017, 2016, 2015 down to 2011 academic sessions. So those who voted for us and those who graduated last year are not paying anything. Also on the issue of certificate, I leave the task to the new leadership to push on for a better negotiations for the price.
Therefore, I would want to say that though our administration did not enjoy the best of support that would trend better students development and free flow of administrative functions, I stand to say, we did our best and we did not fail. Time wasn't friendly but with Gods grace and your prayers we made it work again.
Consequently, I have directed all executive members and all political appointees to return all union property under their custody, forth wile I shall not be party to any Union property and fund. As the union statement of account will be published this day for students to clearly view how transparent we have run their affairs and used their money well.
Finally may I use this opportunity to express my gratitude to our God for the opportunity to serve, within this short period granted unto us. We sincerely appreciate you all for your solidarity and goodwill. We would cherish and treasure your love, your trust and your partnership. We made our mark, we rebuilt SUG and I appreciate all students.
To this end, I want to wish the new coming Government a successful stay in office and encourage them to continue from where we stopped; putting in mind that Government is a continuous process. Remember, you contested an election that is peaceful without stress, may you also extend that Peaceful process to the next government when its their turn.
In the end, I wish all our students success in all their future plans. I remain your loyal servant.
