Yahoo Yahoo is a common term these days, its on everyone’s lips. According to popular opinion, everybody
has a friend or knows someone that doing Yahoo Yahoo, that’s how common it is!
As popular as the popular internet fraud already was, the entire thing blew up after Simi uploaded a video
one her Instagram page, condemning them and instructing them not to buy her music. That video had a lot
of reactions, but when Naira Marley jumped on it, it became a nationwide epidemic.

Several celebrities have aired their views on the topic, is it a crime, is it not bad but not good as well or is it

1. Naira Marley
In an Instagram post, Naira Marly claimed that those doing Yahoo Yahoowere simply paying back the
Westerners for the wickedness of slave trade.
2. Davido
Commenting on Naira Marley’s post as stated above, Davido shared his own Yahoo Yahoo concept saying,
“No body holy”. He made this comment as a response to Tunde Ednut who condemned Naira Marley’s post
saying “This is just wrong, you should’t be sending such messages”.
3. Zlatan Ibile
Zlatan Ibile followed Davido and went on his own rant, attacking those that criticise yahoo boys and still spend their money.
4. 2 Baba
Nigerian music legend 2 Baba in a reply to a follower opined that internet fraudsters are “trying to recover
our forefathers money” This might still be a reference to Slave trade though.
5. M.I
In an interview with Pulse, M.I spoke about valid Yahoo boys have been to the growth of the entertainment
industry. He says “You’re more likely to get money from a Yahoo Boy than any Bank or corporate office.
Shout out to Yahoo Boys, may God prosper your business”
Speaking further he explains the reason for his deep statement, saying “ If Nigerian music is left up to the
corporate world, we’re dead. We’re finished. Shout-out to all the money that comes from funny places.
Shout-out to all the funny politicians.”
6. 9ice
Nigerian musician 9ice is also on the list of Yahoo Yahoo promoters. In his 2016 hit song Living Things, he
lauded the Yahoo boys with several praises and encouragements. In some lines like “Wire wire…Ki n sa ti
l’owo”, you clearly see what he is referring to. The song received a lot of negative reactions from Falz who
didn’t approve of the message in the lyrics. Watch the video below…
7. Olamide
Popular musical sensation, Olamide doesn’t hide where his feelings on the subject. He owns the record
label YBNL which is the acronym for Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL). He also released the song “logo benz”
along with former signee Lil Kesh.
The song was released at a time when internet fraud and ritual money making was at an unwanted height.
The song was widely criticized as promoting fraud and rituals. The song contained lyrics like “If money no
enter I go do blood money”, which sounds like an endorsement for fraud and rituals. WOW! Burst my head
8. Kelly Handsome
In 2008 singer Kelly Handsome released his hit song “Maga Don Pay”, a song that clearly depicted internet
fraud in a good light. The term ‘Maga” is the name generally given to any victim of internet fraud.
9. Olu Maintain
This is an epic throwback on its own, in 2007 Olu Maintan’s hit song “Yahozee” was the first to highlight the
extravagant lifestyle of yahoo boys and it did so in a positive manner. The song was extremely popular,
especially with the familiar dance. It can be said that the song also boosted Yahoo Yahoo activities in the
country.
10. Efe money
Efe of Big Brother Naija also jumped on the side of internet fraudsters by comparing them to corrupt
politicians who steal money and take them to other economies.
