No good parent knowingly puts their child in harm's way. They do anything they can to protect their children-buy them the best clothes, take extra care with their education, protect them from the outside world and made sure they are well fed.
Parents do all these things, but when it comes to the aspect of feeding, they often feed them foods that are harmful to their health and psychological growth.
If you didn't know, here are 7 harmful foods you have been feeding your children.
1. Packaged Juice
A glass of packaged juice contains 5-6 teaspoons of sugar. When your child takes it, the dissolved sugar immediately gets absorbed into the bloodstream which is bad for the metabolism of carbohydrates and makes them hyperactive and restless.
Give your children fruits to eat or freshly squeezed juice or even a smoothie.
2. Yogurts
Fruited infused Yogurts contain a lot of sugar, fat, and calories that lead to children becoming overweight and increases their risk of getting diabetes.
If you want to choose a healthy yogurt for your kid, don’t buy the most dangerous yogurt products that are not stored in the fridge, but on open shelves. Second, buy natural yogurts instead of sweet ones.
3. Cereals
Cornflakes and other similar foods look very healthy in commercials that claim that they contain a lot of vitamins and minerals.
In fact, these foods don’t contain any healthy elements. But what they do contain is a lot of sugar.
All of the healthy elements of corn, wheat, and oats are removed during production and only carbohydrates are left.
If you give to your child as a main meal, their hunger won't be satiated and after a few hours, the child will be hungry again.
A good replacement for cereals is oatmeal. You can add fruit and nuts to make it more attractive for children.
4. Honey
Honey is no doubt a very healthy food, but it is dangerous for children before the age of two.
The child will have an allergic reaction and sometimes honey contains bacteria that can lead to a serious infectious disease called botulism.
5. Grapes
Grapes contain essential vitamins and minerals that a child needs. But there is a good reason why your child shouldn't eat them: they are big and slippery, so it is easy for your child to choke on them.
In addition, it is hard for a child's digestive tract to digest grapes and Banana is a better replacement to give to children below the age of 2.
6. Kids Multivitamin
Children should get their necessary vitamins from foods and fruits, there is no need to give them any supplements. If you must, make sure that it was prescribed by a doctor.
7. Milkshake
Milkshakes might seem like a healthier option that Soda(Coke, Fanta, etc), but they are just as bad. Both drinks contain a lot of fat and sugar.
Drinking such fatty foods puts children at the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
