Corporal Punishment among Secondary Schools

Deliberate Infliting of Punishment on Secondary Schools Student....

School corporal punishment refers to causing deliberate pain or discomfort in response to undesired behaviours by students in schools.

Some teachers and seniors (especially) often capitalize on corporal punishment to express their base instinct, which have little to do with correction, on difficult students.

But why!, I remembered back then in secondary school before we were elected as the functionaries, we were cautioned on this issue regarding the mode of punishment that should be giving to student, nobody took heed to those instruction because no appropriate body was set up to know whether senior students are abiding by the rules of the school (they see themselves as big boys and girls in school).

Many students have been maimed for life or even died from such ordeals. Besides, children of highly-placed parents are hardy subjected to such punishment for fear of retribution. It is mostly children of ordinary Nigerians that are easily victimized.

Please there are better means of achieving compliance or sanctioning erring students other than beastly treatment or even subjecting the student to hard labours. These include extra hard work, suspensions, expulsions and reflecting the attitudes of the students to discipline in their academic reports (some parents nowadays no longer care to read the academic reports of their children). I believe if there is any corporal punishment it should be left to parents to handle.

The state and local government educational level, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION NIGERIA STUDENTS (NANS) should help curb this out of our secondary school because it has not in any way yielded any good fruit since it started.

THE TIME TO END CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS IS NOW!
